hyalinoid giant cell gastritis
3 February 2016This degenerative and inflammatory lesion of the stomach clinically simulate gastric carcinoma because of the extensive involvement of the mucosa and submucosa by the process.
Histologically, it is characterized by eosinophilic hyalinoid degeneration of smooth muscles in the muscularis mucosae as well as mucosal and submucosal blood vessels accompanied with foreign body giant cells and other inflammatory cells.
The lesion occurred in association with chronic peptic ulcers, and a small (...) -
gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp
3 February 2016Gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp (IHP) is a rare type of gastric polyp, and is characterized by downward growth of the hyperplastic mucosal components into the submucosa.
The lesions are mainly composed of hyperplastic foveolar-type glands with focal cystic dilatation.
Pyloric type glands, endocrine cells, acinic cell metaplasia, and smooth muscle bundles were also seen as components of the polyp.
Some cases can coexist with multifocal gastritis cystica profunda (GCP) and gastric (...) -

Smooth Muscle Cell anomalies associated with Gastric ECL Cell Carcinoid
3 February 2016The histologic and immunohistochemical study of ECL cell gastric carcinoids and of the extratumoral gastric mucosa revealed four variants of smooth muscle cell abnormalities:
(1) hypertrophy of muscularis mucosae trapped within the tumors, a finding occurring in 76.5% of cases;
(2) proliferation of stromal smooth muscle cells originating from the muscularas mucosae and mostly associated with tumor invasion of the submucosa (seen in 93.9% of cases with abundant stromal component of the (...) -
