neutrophil oxidative function
15 June 2009Neutrophil oxidative function is now most easily tested by flow cytometry using dihydrorhodamine reduction.
This test is quantitative and reasonably robust. It is more sensitive than the slide NBT (nitroblue tetrazolium) reduction test.
While the latter can be readily performed, it may give false positive results (it may miss defects of neutrophil oxidative metabolism).
The flow cytometric test is also valuable for identifying carriers with dual populations and can detect the low levels (...) -

FIP1L1-PDGFRA gene fusion by del(4)(q22q22) (#17377585#)
Molecular biology
The fusion protein PDGFRA/FIP1L1 between the platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA) gene and the Fip1-like1 (FIP1L1).

T-cell and B-cell PTLDs association
28 October 2008Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) may occur as a complication of immunosuppression in patients who have received solid organ or bone marrow allografts.
Most PTLDs are of B-cell lineage, whereas T-cell proliferations are rare.
The majority of B-cell lesions are associated with Epstein-Barr virus infection.

erythroid-predominant myelodysplastic syndrome
15 October 2008In erythroid-predominant myelodysplastic syndrome, blast calculation as a proportion of marrow nonerythroid rather than total nucleated cells can better stratify patients into prognostically relevant groups. (#18839018#)
Nota bene: In the FAB (French-American-British) and WHO (World Heath Organization) classifications, the blasts in erythroleukemia (M6a) are enumerated from the marrow nonerythroid rather than the total-nucleated cells. However, the method for blast calculation in (...) -
