  Clear cell follicular adenoma refers to the cytoplasmic clearing of the tumour cells which can result from ballooning of mitochondria, accumulation of lipid or glycogen, or deposition of intracellular thyroglobulin.
  As in clear cell follicular carcinoma, immunoreactivity for thyrroglobulin and TTF1 are useful in separating this entity from metastatic renal cell carcinomas.

  Signet-ring cell follicular adenoma is characterized by signet ring tumour cells with a discrete cytoplasmic vacuole displacing the nucleus at the periphery.
  The vacuoles are immunoreactive for thyroglobulin, and often stain for mucosubstances.
  Ultrastructurally, they represent intracellular lumens lined by microvilli.
