toxic adenoma
Wednesday 15 June 2011
Thyroid toxic adenoma is a follicular adenoma associated with symptoms of hyperthyroidism due to autonomous production of thyroxine.
Histologically, the follicles are lined by tall cells, often showing papillary projections within the lumina, similar to the follicles seen in Graves disease.
The tumour appears as a "hot" nodule on radioactive iodine scan.
