SLIT2

4p15.2

Functions

- Slit2 plays a vital role in axon guidance by signaling through Robo receptors (ROBOs), like ROBO1.

- Slit2 has been shown to inhibit leukocyte chemotaxis.

- SLIT2 protein is a putative ligand for the ROBO receptors.

Pathology

- SLIT2 is frequently inactivated by promoter region hypermethylation and allele loss in pulmonary carcinomas and mammary carcinomas (#12384551#)

  • Promoter hypermethylation has been shown to be a common mechanism for inactivation of tumor suppressor genes in breast cancer.
  • Slit2 promoter hypermethylation is associated with loss of Slit2 expression. (#21894562#)
  • Slit2 promoter hypermethylation appears to be responsible for functionally silencing Slit2 expression. (#21894562#)
  • Slit2 promoter hypermethylation may be considered as a possible serum marker for early detection of breast cancer. (#21894562#)
