Definition: Hemorrhagic colitis is a pattern of injury commonly associated with hypoperfusion due to vascular injury/ hypovolemia, infections (E. coli 0157 and other serotypes, Shigella and Klebsiella oxytoca) and certain drugs (antibiotic, alpha-interferon, hyperosmolar medication formulations and other drugs associated with mucosal ischemia).
