Synopsis
Mainly adults
Classification
well-differentiated carcinomas of the thyroid
- thyroid follicular carcinoma
- thyroid papillary carcinoma
- Hurthle cell thyroid carcinoma
anaplastic carcinoma of the thyroid
According to age
pediatric thyroid carcinomas
- rare but well-reported in childhood
- especially papillary carcinoma
- increased rate with radiation exposure
- tend to present with more advanced disease than adults with lymph node and lung metastases
- have higher recurrence rates but better overall survival
