alloimmune neonatal hemochromatosis

Friday 16 September 2011

Alloimmune liver disease is sometimes associated with fetal death.

Synopsis

 neonatal hemochromatosis
 neonatal acute liver failure
 acute liver injury

  • global hepatocyte necrosis
  • minimal reticulum collapse
  • no fibrosis.

Hepatocytes stain strongly positively for C5b-9 complex suggesting pre-mortem lgG complement-mediated liver injury.
Hepatocytes in acute liver failure case controls do not demonstrate a similar mechanism of liver injury.
