[ (||image_reduire{0,60}|inserer_attribut{alt,C-cell hyperplasia}) ]Nodular CCH is defined by a complete obliteration of the follicular lumen by hyperplastic C cells.
Because C-cell nodules may be found in occasional normal glands, a definite diagnosis of nodualr C cell hyerplasia should be made only when this change is extensive, bilateral and multifocal.
Differential diagnosis
Early microscopic medullary thyroid carcinoma is diagnosed when C-cells extend through defects in the follicular basal lumina and infiltrate the thyroid interstitium. Invasion in this setting is characterized by the presence of fibrosis around the infiltrating tumor cell nests.
