RNASEH2C

Ribonuclease (RNase) H enzymes (RNASEHs) specifically cleave ribonucleotides from RNA:DNA duplexes.

Two classes of RNase H (RNASEHs) exist :
- type 1 (I): RNASEH1s
- type 2 (II): RNASEH2s

The protein complex RNase H2 (RNASEH2s) is the major source of RNase H activity in mammalian cells and yeast.

The protein complex is proposed to function in the removal of lagging-strand Okazaki fragment RNA primers during DNA replication and in the excision of single ribonucleotides from DNA:DNA duplexes.

The 3 homologs in S. cerevisiae are known as Rnh2Ap, Rnh2Bp, and RNh2Cp, respectively.
