IRAKs
Definition: interleukin-1 receptor associated kinases. The IRAKs protein family, a subroup of Toll/IL1R receptor family.
The Toll/IL1R receptor family consists of a large number of transmembrane proteins that are involved in host defense and have conserved intracellular domains.
This superfamily is divided into 2 subgroups based on the components of the extracellular domains:
the TLRs (MIM.603030) with leucine-rich repeats
the IL1Rs (MIM.147810) with immunoglobulin-like motifs.
Signal transduction pathways in these receptor families ultimately lead to activation of members of the Rel (MIM.164014) and AP1 (MIM.165160) family of transcription factors.
