glutamine synthetase
26 September 2019WKP PO
Definition : Glutamine synthetase (GS) (EC 6.3.1.2) is an enzyme that plays an essential role in the metabolism of nitrogen by catalyzing the condensation of glutamate and ammonia to form glutamine.
Glutamine Synthetase uses ammonia produced by nitrate reduction, amino acid degradation, and photorespiration. The amide group of glutamate is a nitrogen source for the synthesis of glutamine pathway metabolites.
HSP70, GPC3 and GS expressions could be useful biomarkers for (...) -
ALK-rearranged renal cell carcinoma
26 September 2019ALK-translocation RCC
Definition: ALK-rearranged renal cell carcinoma (ALK-RCC) has been proposed and incorporated into the World Health Organisation Classification of renal tumours as a provisional entity.
ALK-RCC accounts for less than 1% of all renal tumours. The age of patients ranges from 6 to 61 years with a mean age of 29.6 years.
Grossly, the tumour forms were ill-demarcated or well demarcated solid mass in the renal medulla. Histologically, RCC with VCL-ALK translocation (...) -
MITF family-associated renal cell carcinoma
20 August 2019Definition : MITF family-associated renal cell carcinoma : Microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MiT) family translocation renal cell carcinoma harbors variable gene fusions involving either TFE3 or TFEB genes. Multiple 5’ fusion partners for TFE3 have been reported, including ASPSCR1, CLTC, DVL2, LUC7L3, KHSRP, PRCC, PARP14, NONO, SFPQ1, MED15, and RBM10.

MEIS1-NCOA2-associated renal sarcoma
6 September 2018Some renal sarcomas are characterized by a MEIS1-NCOA2 gene fusion.
These neoplasms did not have a distinctive immunohistochemical profile, though both labeled for TLE1.
The morphologic features are distinct from other sarcomas associated with NCOA2 gene fusions, including mesenchymal chondrosarcoma, congenital/infantile spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma, and soft tissue angiofibroma.
The aggressive histologic features of these neoplasms indicate malignant potential, thus warranting (...) -
ACKD-RCC-like cysts
17 July 2018Definition: Acquired cystic disease-associated renal cell carcinoma (ACKD-RCC), originally described by Tickoo and colleagues, is found exclusively in patients with end-stage renal disease.
Tickoo and colleagues noted: "Many of the tumors (16 of 24 dominant tumors) appeared to arise in a cyst, most often completely filling the cystic space. The cells lining such cysts were morphologically similar to those in the rest of the tumor."
Atypical cysts lined with vacuolated cells with (...)
