neonatal adrenal cysts

Friday 28 January 2011

Cysts of the adrenal gland are very rare in the neonatal period and are mainly diagnosed either at surgery or at autopsy.

Congenital adrenal cysts are classified as adrenal true cysts and adrenal hemorrhagic pseudocysts (which must be distinguished from unilateral hematomas).

Differential diagnosis

cystic hemangioma in the adrenocortical tissue
pseudocyst arisen secondary to a hemorrhagic infarct caused by a septic embolus
