secretory carcinoma of the breast, SCA

PO

Definition: Secretory carcinomas are distinguished from infiltrating ductal carcinomas of the breast by their characteristic histomorphology and more favorable prognosis and by the expression of a chimeric tyrosine kinase that is encoded by the ETV6-NTRK3 fusion gene.

Secretory carcinoma is the most common breast carcinoma in young persons, and is also called “juvenile carcinoma.” It is associated with t(12;15) and is usually triple negative. Microscopically, it shows a hyalinized stroma with tubuloalveolar or papillary growth.

It has a favorable prognosis, is negative for ER, PR and HER2, and is associated with t(12;15) ETV6-NTRK3 fusion gene.

Etiology

ETV6-NTRK3 fusion gene by translocation t(12;15)(p13;q25)
