CLINICAL FEATURES:

 peak incidence 3rd decade
 most often located on extremities, especially thigh
 women more than men
 symmetric, heavily pigmented, sharply circumscribed
 papule or nodule
 history of recent onset

DIFFERENTIAL:

 dysplastic nevus
 lentiginous or pagetoid melanoma
 Spitz nevus
