Examples

 ovarian fibroma

  • Ovarian fibroma has dense benign spindle cells.
  • It is associated with Meigs syndrome (ovarian fibroma, ascites, right pleural effusion), and Gorlin syndrome (basal cell nevus syndrome - basal cell carcinomas, odontogenic keratocyst , PTCH gene, autosomal dominant).

 fibrothecoma

  • Fibrothecoma has features of fibroma and thecoma.

 thecoma

  • Thecoma has lipid vacuolated spindle cells with hyaline plaques.
  • They can produce estrogens and androgens.

 ovarian fibrosarcoma

  • Fibrosarcoma has a herringbone pattern, cellular atypia, and increased mitoses.

 Brenner tumor

  • Brenner tumor contains nests of urothelial type cells with distinct outlines, nuclei with longitudinal grooves (“coffee bean”) and a dense fibroblastic stroma.
  • Brenner tumor can be benign, borderline or malignant depending on the cytologic morphology and behavior.
