Definition : Salpingitis isthmica nodosa is a diverticular disease of the Fallopian tube that may be caused by inflammatory conditions; it is associated with infertility and ectopic pregnancy.

Salpingitis isthmica nodosa is also known as diverticular disease of the uterine tube. Its etiology is uncertain, but it may be secondary to inflammatory conditions.

Grossly, there are outpouchings (diverticula) of the Fallopian tube, and microscopy it shows a normal glandular epithelium with smooth muscle hypertrophy or fibrous tissue. It is associated with infertility and ectopic pregnancy.
