Definition: Hidradenoma papilliferum is a benign apocrine tumor found almost exclusively in women, most often the labia majora. It forms a well-circumscribed dermal nodule with papillary projections with a fibrous stroma.

They are lined with a double-layered epithelium composed of inner cuboidal myoepithelial cells and outer columnar cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm.

The outer cells may demonstrate decapitation secretion, in which the apical portion of the outer cells pinch off; this feature is frequently observed in apocrine lesions.
