Wolffian duct remnant
Friday 10 September 2010
The mesonephric ducts (Wolffian ducts) in the male develop into the efferent ducts of the testis, epididymis, vasa deferentia, seminal vesicles and ejaculatory ducts.
In the female the mesonephric ducts degenerate, but remnants may persist in the broad ligament and in the lateral wall of the uterine cervix and vagina.
Because the remnants are situated within cervical stroma and rarely reach the surface, cytological presentation is uncommon.
Types
appendix epididymis
vasa aberrans (cranial and caudal aberrant ductules)
- ductus aberrans inferior (duct of Haller)
- ductus aberrans superior
paradidymis (organ of Giraldes)
