paratesticular papillary cystadenoma
Friday 10 September 2010
Papillary Cystadenomas are formed by one or several cystic cavities lined by an epithelium with multiple papillary proliferations.
Synopsis
+/- areas of cribriform glandular proliferations
The papillae are composed of a thin, connective tissue layer and are lined by cylindrical simple or pseudostratified epithelium.
Most of the proliferative cylindrical cells show numerous cilia in the apical cytoplasm, although some clear globular cells lacking cilia also are observed.
A discontinuous layer of hyperchromatic basal cells also could be distinguished
Immunohistochemical studies
marked immunostaining of CK7 antibody in the epithelial cells of all cystadenomas.
Focal expression of CD10 protein is detected in the apical cytoplasm of the benign epithelial proliferative cells.
No CK20 expression was observed in the epithelium of cystadenomas.
Epididymal and testicular hydatids can be used as control samples for each antibody. The epididymal hydatid (control for wolffian embryonic remnants) expresses CK7 and CD10 antibodies; CK20 is negative.
