Definition: Cytology is the study of cells. Cytology is that branch of life science (biology ) that deals with the study of cells in terms of structure, function and chemistry.
In medicine, the purpose of cytology is the study of abnormal appearance of cells during diseases and in tumors.
The study of abnormal cells in human diseases and tumors is cytopathology.
